Focus on Fathers

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there.  The guys who sacrifice to raise children and instill good values and habits.  The men who value their children more than any material item or money.  The guys who participate in the important moments in the lives in their children and are frequently thinking of how to be even better dads.  In today’s changing and challenging times being a father (or a mother) is a big deal and doing it right is cause for reflection and celebration.

Before I leave you to reflect on the significance of Father’s Day I share with you an excerpt from a previous Father’s Day blog post I wrote:

I reflect on the lessons my dad taught my two younger brothers and I. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the New York City Police Department in an era when the country was still struggling with racial integration. Though he worked long hours—including third shift—he made the time to check homework, give us extra reading assignments, give us chores (yikes!), and instill in us many of the values that seem to be lacking in today’s changing times. Though my dad is no longer living he still remains part of me and I thank him for the times, things, and talents he shared with me. From punting a football with his toe (and he was quite good at it too!) to playing basketball to taking me with him when he went to the bank to making me read the New York Times before I was even 12 years old—–thanks Dad!
